I’m honored to introduce this edition of Voices AMplified, which shares the stories of two leaders in 3D printing and additive manufacturing (AM)–Jason Jones and Maarten Logtenberg.

As CEO and co-founder of Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies, Jason is doing more than just printing parts. He and his team are automating additive manufacturing workflows to deliver finished products. His career started long before his current role, and nurturing an interest in manufacturing at an early age led him to where he is today. Read about his international journey of AM exploration, as well as his perspectives on the potential of 3D printing as a critical part of the future of manufacturing.

Speaking of international innovators, Maarten is co-founder and CTO of CEAD Group, a large-format 3D printing solution provider in the Netherlands. While his company is known for disruption and delivering “extra extraordinary large 3D printers,” Maarten and his team work closely with customers on integration with automation, process development, machining and other aspects to ensure they not only deliver reliable, quality parts, but also create lasting partnerships.

I’ve been a proud advisor of the SME Additive Manufacturing Technical Community Leadership Committee since 2021. One of the most exciting aspects of additive manufacturing, for me, is the opportunity it provides for interdisciplinary research that blends materials science, engineering design, automation, metrology, mechanics and many other fields.

You can see these interdisciplinary threads reflected in this edition of Voices AMplified and in the research underway in my research group, such as an NSF LEAP-HI project that combines AM process innovation, materials science, mechanics, process-aware design and even sociology.

I hope these stories inspire you to shine a light on others who lend their time and talents for the betterment of the AM community.
