LOUIS, MO – AUGUST 27, 2019 – Sunnen Products Co. is expanding its global production footprint, opening a manufacturing facility in Monterrey Mexico to complement its production in the U.S., China, Switzerland, and Brazil. Sunnen, a large, integrated manufacturer of precision bore creation and finishing equipment, will move a portion of its abrasive and tooling products from its St. Louis operation to the Monterrey facility. The transition will be phased to begin by the end of 2019 and conclude by the end of 2020. The company expects minimal impact on staffing levels in St. Louis with this transition and will reassign most employees to fill needs in other areas.
Sunnen, a family-owned business,says it remains deeply committed to its employee base and to St. Louis. According to a statement, the company recognizes that diversification of the labor pools from which it draws its highly skilled workforce needs to expand in order to meet the demands of its customers. Further, workforce tenure and pending retirements present a challenge the company must respond to. “This expansion represents a positive opportunity to further our global reach, advancing our position in the marketplace. Additionally, it allows our highly skilled St. Louis workforce to expand their focus on innovating the Sunnen portfolio and to better serving our customers for another 95 years.” said President & COO, Chris Miltenberger.
Sunnen employs 650 people worldwide, with offices, manufacturing and technical support facilities in Europe, China, India, Brazil, and the U.S.
