3D Systems Announces Two Acquisitions

By SME Media Staff

3D Systems, Rock Hill, S.C., earlier this month announced two acquisitions.

The first was Allevi, a Philadelphia-based developer of bioprinting solutions, comprising 3D bioprinters, biomaterials (also known as bioinks), and specialized laboratory software.

The move is related to 3D Systems' development of its regenerative medicine program, targeted toward the printing of solid human organs through a partnership with United Therapeutics.

3D Systems said acquiring Allevi positions the company "to effectively address a broad spectrum of applications in the rapidly evolving field of regenerative medicine."

The other acquisition was of Additive Works, a Bremen, Germany-based software company that "has focused upon simulation-based optimization and automation of the AM print preparation and workflow," according to a 3D Systems statement.
