WORCESTER, Mass. – Norton | Saint-Gobain Abrasives has introduced the Farécla line of polishing compounds and surface finishing products for markets such as OEM automotive assembly, marine, woodworkers, composite manufacturers and other industrial applications. Farécla, a global company, was purchased by Norton ǀ Saint-Gobain Abrasives in 2018 to complement its abrasive products and markets.
The Farécla line has cutting, polishing and finishing compounds, as well as application accessories designed to enhance shine on painted surfaces, gel coats and wood lacquers. The abrasive technology removes sanding marks permanently, avoiding costly rework, according to the company. To protect finishes and provide a high gloss, a polymer UV wax that is water resistant and protects against harmful UV rays can be applied.
"Since 1952, Farécla has been making compounds. The name is a combination of two French words meaning “shining” and “bright” -- both are characteristics customers can expect from Farécla compounds. The line has best, better, and good tiers of compounds, finishes and wax, and their unique abrasive technology will work on many different substrates and paints,” said Craig Chaffee, Norton | Saint-Gobain Abrasives Product Manager.
Farécla Profile Advanced Plus Liquid Compound is the best tier product with the highest level of cut and gloss, resulting in high clarity on painted surfaces and wood lacquers, according to the company. The abrasive technology permanently removes sanding marks up to P1500. In the better tier offering, Profile Advanced will remove scratch patterns to P1500 and produce finer finishes when used with a twisted wool pad. This application produces an exceptional finish on clearcoats, polyurethane lacquers and painted surfaces, according to the company. Profile Select, the good tier offering, is well suited for OEM marine and composite applications as a cutting compound removing sanding marks up to P800 and finer.
For finishing, Profile Finish Liquid Compound is an economical solution featuring low viscosity. Its formulation removes swirls and holograms easily and quickly, enhancing color for a high shine finish. Farécla Profile Polymer Wax delivers a high gloss finish with evenness and transparency on dark colors.
Most of the compounds are available in liter and gallon containers, where Advanced Plus and Profile Select are offered in up to five-gallon containers.
A complementary line of back-up pads is also available in flat, dimple, and waffle faces and densities. Each type produces different results, improving the application process and final shine. Both three inch and eight-inch foam pads are industry standards, and a wool option can improve the cut on certain compounds.
