On Oct 5, during a virtual open house, press conference and product launch, GROB-WERKE GmbH & Co. KG, Hanover, Germany announced its new five-axis universal machining center, the G150. According to Christoph Demmeler, area sales manager for universal machining centers, who presented the machine, the company’s new G150 is the smallest of the GROB machining centers, that includes G350, G550, and G750. “It is the same machine design and concept, just a little smaller,” said Demmeler.

Christoph Demmeler area sales manager for universal machining centers for GROB describes some features of the new G150 in GROB’s virtual open house.

Some of the features include a tool disc magazine for quick tool changes, active cooling of heat-generating components, and a choice of either Siemens or Heidenhain controls. Among the many features Demmeler discussed for its new five-axis machining center is that there are no restrictions on using longer tools. Motor spindles can also be selected for material, including aluminum, cast iron, high-alloy steels, hardened steels, and superalloys.

For the size and precision of the G150, Demmeler noted that it is most applicable to the precision engineering and medical technology, die & mold, mechanical engineering, and aerospace industries. “Tough materials that need high precision,” he said.
