YCM Introduces “Aero” Series Double-Column Machining Center Targeted to Aerospace Industry

By YCM Technology Inc. Press Release

YCM Technology (USA) Inc., Carson, Calif., has announced the introduction of the “AERO” Series of next-generation, high-performance double-column, multi-axis DCV2018A/B-5AX machining centers. The new high-speed YCM DCV “AERO” series machines are designed handle demands specific to the aerospace industry, according to the company.

The DCV2018A-5AX features an HSK-A63 with 18,000 rpm spindle putting out 94 hp (70 kW). The 1,181 ipm (30 m/min) rapid feed rate on the X, Y, and Z axes give optimal axial performance.

A Z-axis direct drive motor with no counter balance provides responsive, precise, and backlash-free movement that improves surface finish, according to the company. The direct coupled drive on the X-axis provides a 50 percent speed increase, resulting in faster acceleration. The 78.8” x 59” (2,000 x 1,500 mm) table is equipped with 8,800-lb (4,000-kg.) load capacity. An optional 120 ATC unit is available as well as a 250-mm Z-axis riser.

A reinforced, double-column structure with smooth operation and low vibration is designed to enable better finishing and extend tool life, according to YCM. The internal, double-A type ribbed-bed design offers full support for the table, which allows the force to be evenly distributed to the foundation. Roller linear guideways on all three axes and multiple oversized slider blocks provide improved cutting characteristics. The Y-axis is designed with a large span in horizontal and vertical directions in order to withstand the headstock weight and machining force.

The five-axis universal head is equipped with a direct-drive motor with resolution of 0.001  The machine also features cross roller bearings with high rotation accuracy that are capable of accommodating bearing loads in every direction, according to the company. A Heidenhain encoder is standard for positioning the B- and C-axis headstock for high accuracy functionality. Additional features include a pneumatic positioning clamping system, over-travel protection and B-axis anti-drop function at power outage.
