Hainbuch Introduces 2-Jaw Module—A Compact Alternative to the Large Centric Vise

By Hainbuch America Press Release

Hainbuch America Corp., Germantown, Wis., offers a modular workholding system with maximum flexibility and designed for a wide range of part diameters, configurations and small quantities. Hainbuch’s modular system is appropriate for round, prismatic, small or larger components, and virtually any workholding configuration is possible with its modular system, according to the company. Various workholding adapters can be installed in two minutes or less.

Hainbuch’s new 2-jaw module for its modular workholding system.

Parent company Hainbuch GmbH, Germany, recently introduced an adaptation of the modular system to clamp cubic parts—the 2-jaw module.

In the modular system, round workpieces are clamped from the outside with clamping heads (collets) within the collet chuck. Larger-diameter workpieces, beyond the capacity of the collet chuck, can be clamped with the system’s 3-jaw module. Now, for cubic parts that are positioned centrically on machining centers and milling machines, the new 2-jaw module is an option. Users can change over from clamping round parts to cubic ones in less than two minutes, according to Hainbuch. The 2-jaw module can handle turning applications up to 1,500 rpm.

Traditional workholding is often much larger than the part to be machined so interference is an issue. Special, longer tools are then needed and there’s a risk of a costly collision. Due to its compact profile, Hainbuch’s modular solution, consisting of a chuck and jaw module, is an excellent alternative to large and heavy centric vises, according to Hainbuch. The 2-jaw and 3-jaw modules use the Hainbuch collet chuck as their base. Changeover is possible without removing the collet chuck and realignment due to Hainbuch’s Centrex quick-change interface.
