Manufacturing Thrives in Greater Fort Lauderdale

Manufacturing companies in Greater Fort Lauderdale benefit from the region’s skilled workforce, convenient air, sea and land shipping services and professional support services. The area’s diverse mix of manufacturers includes a wide array of products such as: aircraft parts, building supplies and materials, clothing, computer and electronic components, construction products, food processing, jewelry, medical devices and instruments, military supplies, mobile devices, newspapers, patient monitoring systems and pharmaceuticals.

The following are examples of manufacturing companies that have relocated or expanded to Greater Fort Lauderdale in the past year: DGS Marine, a Brazilian shipbuilder specializing in fabrication of military vessels, created 20 jobs and invested $4.8 million, relocating its manufacturing from Brazil to Miramar. VPX, the makers of Bang energy drinks, created 250 new jobs and invested $181 million in Pembroke Pines. Navalimpianti, which designs and manufactures marine equipment such as valves, remote control systems and cargo access equipment for passenger and merchant ships, added 20 new jobs and made a capital investment of $9.85 million in Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, Techtronic Industries, the Hong Kong-based global manufacturer of brands including Milwaukee, Ryobi, Dirt Devil and Hoover, relocated its U.S. headquarters to Fort Lauderdale, adding 50 new jobs and investing $900,000.

Two additional manufacturing companies of note investing in Greater Fort Lauderdale within the past year are Decimal Engineering and Sintavia. In February of 2020, Decimal Engineering, owned by brothers Alan, Kevin, and Mark Garey, celebrated the grand opening of the company’s new manufacturing facility in Coral Springs, adding 20 new jobs and making a capital investment of $9.5 million. The move to its new 80,000-square-foot facility is the culmination of 51 years of growth from a small sheet metal job shop to a full-service manufacturer providing parts and subassemblies to the aerospace, defense, telecom, after-market automotive, general electronics, medical and marine markets. New manufacturing company Sintavia, which fabricates custom aviation parts using 3D printing with metallic powders, added 50 new jobs and invested $16 million in its new 60,000-square-foot facility, celebrated at a ribbon cutting in May of 2019.

A large pool of skilled professionals, an inviting quality of life and one of the most competitive tax climates in America make Greater Fort Lauderdale one of the world’s most attractive business locations for manufacturing companies. Strategic assets include: a central location in the South Florida metropolitan statistical area, the largest in the Southeast; a broad-based and diverse multilingual, multicultural workforce continuously enhanced through the education of 300,000 college students each year; access to both domestic and international markets with three international airports and ports in close proximity; convenient service to Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe; highly ranked public and private schools, colleges and universities; and a statewide apprenticeship program titled Apprentice Florida (apprenticeflorida.com).
