G&W Products needed an information system that could not only network with other facilities but bring new and more powerful capabilities.

Since its founding in 1968, G&W Products (Fairfield, OH) has grown into a diversified global provider of metal stamping and fabrication capabilities. According to Jeff Karan, director of enterprise technologies, “Our three facilities and 160 employees handle orders ranging from 100 to 100,000 pieces and provide customers with assemblies from 1 to 20,000 lb. As we’ve grown, we’ve incorporated more than a dozen IT systems at various levels throughout the organization.”

The company realized that to move to the next level of productivity and efficiency, it would have to incorporate an information system that could not only network with the others but bring new and more powerful capabilities that would not only provide more information and control, but would extend to decision-making capabilities and improve its customer service.

“We chose a Plex system because it provided a total package based on our needs, and the cloud-based technology gave us real-time access from anywhere,” said Karan. “We can even access the internet browser from home and answer customer questions by phone immediately.”

Additional advantages include the ability to provide design assistance regarding optimum techniques for part manufacture, PLC integration for automated equipment, and above all, the ability for executives and shop floor people alike to see the “big picture.”

“The system has not only proven itself in manufacturing applications but as a potent customer sales tool,” said Karan. “When customers understand the comprehensive nature of our IT system, they have a lot more confidence about working with us.”
