General Carbide Corp. (Greensburg, PA) has purchased automotive tooling supplier Only Tool (Ypsilanti, MI). Only Tool has developed its expertise in cold-form tool manufacturing under the leadership of co-owners Ray Fender and Mick Ruffolo, who, under terms of the agreement, will continue to operate the business. The company is one of the few US manufacturers that is a single source for the design, production and servicing of precision carbide and high-speed steel tooling used in a full range of cold-extrusion and cold-forming operations. Only Tool’s products offer longer wear life due to their superior toughness and resistance to abrasion, compression, corrosion, deflection, erosion, torsional stress and wear.
“Over the past 50 years, General Carbide has devoted considerable resources to developing advanced metallurgical grades,” said Mona Pappafava-Ray, General Carbide’s President and CEO. “By sharing our expertise in R&D and manufacturing with Only Tool, we are creating new opportunities for both companies in the automotive tooling market.” Ms. Pappafava-Ray led the company’s acquisition of Only Tool.
“Having access to General Carbide’s technical and business resources allows us to expand our production capabilities and add skilled toolmakers to our team,” said Fender. “Becoming part of the General Carbide family enables us to focus exclusively on our strength, which is providing automotive suppliers with quality automotive tooling,” added Ruffolo.
