Membership Has Its Advantages

Whether you're a seasoned practitioner, an emerging professional or a student at any level, an SME Membership gives you the tools you need to succeed at all stages of your career and in all areas of manufacturing.

SME members are manufacturing professionals, researchers, educators and students who are looking to connect with peers, gain knowledge related to manufacturing technology and trends, solve problems and participate in leadership opportunities.

SME offers its members all of these benefits and more including the Knowledge & Resource Center, local chapter meetings, conferences and trade shows, as well as student-focused programs that showcase the career opportunities and technology within manufacturing.

Types of Memberships

Professional Individual

One-Year Membership: $138

A person with a minimum of 4 years experience in manufacturing; OR an individual who has an SME Certification; OR a registered professional engineer; OR a graduate with a bachelor’s or associates degree in science or engineering. One-Year Membership: $138; Two-Year Membership: $248.50; Three-Year Membership: $352
Emerging Professional

One-Year Membership: $45

A professional who graduated from high school or a postsecondary institution within the past five years. One-Year Membership: $45; One-Time Five-Year in Advance Membership: $200
Postsecondary Student

Membership: $20

An undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled at a postsecondary institution, such as a technical institution, college or university, who is studying manufacturing or a related field.
AME/SME Joint Membership

One-Year Membership: $259

SME has partnered with AME to offer a dues discount when you join both organization at the same time. One-Year Membership in Both AME and SME: $259; Two-Year Membership (Both): $472; Three-Year Membership (Both): $665
High School Educator/Student

Membership: FREE

As an SME member benefit, the SME Knowledge & Resource Center provides technical information and knowledge on a vast array of manufacturing processes and other engineering-related subjects, including access to CIRP papers. SME's Journal of Manufacturing Systems, Journal of Manufacturing Processes and Manufacturing Letters are published by Elsevier and are included in the ScienceDirect digital library. Manuscript submissions and the peer-review process are handled electronically through the Elsevier Editorial System. Learn More

Scholarships

The SME Education Foundation offers substantial scholarships to students with at least one parent or grandparent who has been an SME member in good standing for the last two years. The Family Scholarships include one award in an amount of $40,000 and three scholarships of $20,000 each, all payable over four years. Learn More

Manufacturing Engineering magazine

Manufacturing Engineering is a highly respected magazine serving U.S. engineers and other manufacturing professionals who use manufacturing technologies. The magazine’s history dates back to 1935, when SME first published it as Tool Engineer. In the 1960s, the magazine was called Tool and Manufacturing Engineer.
