How did you get into Manufacturing?

After a couple of classes during my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, I developed a final thesis on numerical simulation of forming processes. After that I entered a PhD course and I started focusing on sheet metal forming operations.

Describe your current position within your institution.

For the past 12 years I am a full-time professor of Manufacturing at University of Palermo in Italy.

What do you want people to know about NAMRI?

NAMRI is a great community and a wonderful forum for discussing new trends in manufacturing and often forecasting innovations and new, potentially interesting options for effective productions.

Provide your vision for the future of manufacturing?

A key point, in my opinion, is the integration of knowledge and skills. As I4.0 has already demonstrated different experiences in manufacturing, automation, electronics, computer systems, telecommunications and so on can lead  to strong improvements in production in terms of cost reduction and quality enhancement. In the future, further hybridisations of different experiences and understanding how it will lead to innovative products and processes.
