AM Industry Achievement Award

Frequently Asked Questions

The AM Industry Achievement Award, established in 2008 by SME's Additive Manufacturing Community, was developed to recognize an individual or team for outstanding accomplishments that have had significant impact within the additive manufacturing industry or in any industry through the application of additive manufacturing technologies. As the name suggests, the award recognizes achievements that have been implemented or deployed in a commercial/industrial environment rather than research investigative work. Winners are selected with consideration for the scope and scale of benefits realized and the potential future impact their work will have on the industry.

2026 Winner

Max Lobovsky is being recognized by SME’s Additive Manufacturing Technical Community as the 2026 AM Industry Achievement Award Winner. With nearly two decades of service, Lobovsky has advanced industrial additive manufacturing by removing traditional barriers of cost, complexity, and reliability. As co-founder and CEO of Formlabs, he pioneered professional desktop 3D printing by building a full ecosystem of hardware, materials, and software that shifts the industry toward true production use cases. A respected speaker and mentor, Lobovsky actively contributes to ecosystem-building and workforce development through early talent cultivation, giving rise to the influential "Form Mafia" of hardware startups. Prior to Formlabs, he led efforts at Fab@Home, an early open-source initiative that established printing labs in schools worldwide. Passionate about inspiring future engineers, he holds a B.S. from Cornell University and an M.S. from MIT.
