This section will cover troubleshooting for: off-color parts; off gloss; poor adhesion of powder to substrate; poor adhesion to powder coating; transfer efficiency; fluidization; clumping, blocking, or sintering; unacceptable surface appearance; protrusions; craters, pinholes, and fisheyes; and choosing coating. Troubleshooting tips are given for the overall electrostatic operation and guidelines are provided for troubleshooting finish-cured film. Other factors to consider are whether there have been any problems with the product before, and whether it can be cured and the gloss checked under controlled conditions. The operator should know the expected coverage, mil thickness, and ease of application.
