Step Ahead The Manufacturing Institute is partnering with Deloitte, University of Phoenix and SME on the STEP Ahead initiative (women in science, technology, engineering and production). The STEP Ahead initiative was launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry through recognition, research and education/leadership. Women in Manufacturing The annual Women in Manufacturing networking and educational event is designed exclusively for women who have chosen a career in the manufacturing industry, and want to share perspectives, improve leadership and communication skills, engage in mentoring programs and network with other in the industry. Two hundred leading women manufacturing executives, managers and supervisors from across the country convened in Milwaukee on October 29-30, 2012, for the Women in Manufacturing SUMMIT 2012, hosted by the Precision Metalforming Association. Society of Women Engineers SME is sponsoring the annual SWE’s Capitol Hill Days. Last year, more than 90 society leaders from 29 engineering and diversity organizations co-sponsored and attended the 2012 “Diversity and Inclusion Fuels Innovation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)” Capitol Hill Day, an event that increased awareness on Capitol Hill of the need for and the importance of diversity and inclusion in the STEM workforce. The 2013 “Diversity and Inclusion Fuels Innovation in STEM” Capitol Hill Day will be held March 20-21, 2013, in Washington, D.C. Learn More
