This chapter focuses on a variety of often-overlooked tools that support deflashing and hand deburring. Many of these tools are very effective in specific situations. They include: side-cutting pliers (nippers), hones, split-mandrel stones and burrs, dental picks, buffs, midget laps, broaches, and watchmaker broaches. The items described in this chapter are simple tools and, with the exception of pliers for deflashing, are used only occasionally for special problems. They are all commercially available but will not be normally found in discussions of deburring. Diamond-coated, split-point tools compress as they enter the hole, then expand after reaching the cross hole.
