Description:
Wooden tools can be useful for the fine finishing of parts. There are a variety of the wooden tool shapes available for lapping and finishing. These tools are mounted to a 0.125-in. (3.18-mm) diameter shank and act like a soft mounted point. They are available in a hard dark wood or a soft white product. These can be used by hand or in rotary motors. The woods used include: rock wood, white birch, balsa, poplar (used in the glass industry), and cork A general rule of thumb is that the softer the wood, the finer the finish obtained. Rock wood will cut the fastest of the woods. All can be dressed with a file or knife to fit the shape desired.
