Description:

In recent years, American manufacturing has experienced job losses from downsizing to migration to offshore locations. To survive and remain competitive, organizations have to change and reinvent themselves with an increased focus on the skills of the workforce at all levels. This transformation of academic institutions into educators of highly qualified manufacturing employees is a national challenge. In southwestern Pennsylvania, this has taken the form of an innovative partnership called PRIME. This paper describes the work being done in the areas of manufacturing controls, automation and robotics and showcases the Learning Factory at Robert Morris University. Author: Winston F. Erevelles, Robert Morris University, Moon Township, PA.
