Description:

Aluminum alloys are readily weldable by high energy density beam (HEDB) methods. Most HEDB processes are characterized by the vaporization of a keyhole, which improves beam coupling and heat input to the workpiece. HEDB processes offer many advantages for aluminum alloys, including elevated welding speeds on thin sections and deep penetration on thick sections, while maintaining a narrow weld beam and heat-affected zone. HEDB welding processes are easily automated and permit high production rates. Author: Jo Ann Clarke, Metalase Technologies, LLC, Clinton Township, MI.
