The capability of a rigid-tool discrete mechanistic force model to predict peak forces during flat end milling is evaluated for a wide range of materials and cutting conditions. Tool run out is included in the model, while tool deflection is not because of the needed algorithm speed. The goal of this research is to determine the cutting conditions under which the rigid tool model provides reasonable force estimations. The effect of tool run out on model accuracy is also assessed.
