In this paper an experimental investigation is performed to evaluate the performance of self-propelled rotary tools in high speed dry face milling. A comprehensive testing procedure was carried out to evaluate the rotary tool performance based on the level of cutting forces, degree of tool wear, and surface quality produced. Cutting force measurements and surface finish results are presented and discussed. The results indicate that a superior performance and a prolonged tool life can be achieved using rotary tools when optimal cutting conditions are utilized. Authors: H. A.
