Description:

The onset of chatter, one of the important factors affecting the quality of a surface manufactured by a cutting process is investigated. Chatter is a self excited vibration of the machine-tool and workpiece system due to a dynamic instability and/or a regenerative effect. This paper investigates the dynamical regenerative process and its stability as a pattern forming process using a time-domain eigen analysis.
