An ultra high-speed cam grinding machine was developed and applied to automotive engine production lines. This machine provides high grinding efficiency as a result of incorporating such advanced technologies as a newly developed wheel spindle, which provides a wheel peripheral speed of 200 m/s and produces 70 kW of power, a CBN wheel and a truing device for ultra high-speed grinding. Compared with conventional machines, the new machine has increased the stock removal rate by 2.5 times and the cycle time has been reduced by 64%. This is the world's first implementation of such a highly productive grinding machine.
