The use of composites materials in the automotive industry is now well accepted and increasing every year. Both thermoset and thermoplastic polymers are used in combination with glass fiber (chopped, continuous, mats, fabrics). The main advantage of composites over steel is weight reduction but many other benefits are provided: cost reduction by function integration, low tooling cost, corrosion resistance, impact resistance, and design freedom. Thermoplastic composites play a large role in automotive composites because of low density, recyclability, ease of processing and impact resistance.
