The SME logo design is based on the idea that SME is shaping the future. The two interacting shapes of the “continuous improvement” symbol convey the notion of technological achievement in manufacturing and its ability to improve society. The center of these two shapes — or negative space — pays homage to the heritage of SME and its previous diamond logo. The proprietary typography in the SME logo emphasizes points of connection, which are inherent to all aspects of SME — connecting manufacturing practitioners to each other and the knowledge they seek, connecting buyers and sellers in the manufacturing ecosystem, and connecting the industry to its current and future workforce. The color palette of the SME logo retains a familiar deep blue that is complemented by a combination of vibrant blue and green that signifies innovation, progress and environmental responsibility.
It is extremely important for brand success that the SME brand identity, marks, program logos and other graphic elements be displayed correctly. This includes always using the correct typefaces and the correct relative positioning and size of all graphical elements.
1. Do not distort any portion of the identity.
2. Do not crop any portion of the identity.
3. Do not tilt the identity.
4. Do not rotate the identity.
5. Do not rearrange components in the identity.
6. Do not alter the alignment of any component in the identity.
7. Do not change the colors of the identity.
Prior to using an SME logo, the SME Graphic Standards Manual (PDF) should be downloaded and reviewed to ensure consistent usage. The Graphic Standards Manual is a working document and should be downloaded and reviewed consistently for correct usage of the SME logo. SME member units — chapters and Technical Communities — are required to use the current, approved SME logo on all of their websites, literature, banners, social media and in all communications (emails, etc.). If you have any questions about the SME logo or need assistance with its placement, please contact SME Governance & Corporate Communications at firstname.lastname@example.org.
