Gears & Gear Manufacturing
The program begins with an introduction to the primary gear terms and definitions. The various gear forms and how they relate to axis positions is also explained. The manufacturing of gears is organized into segments on machining methods and finishing processes. The machining methods segment features a detailed examination of the primary processes used, including: hobbing, shaping, broaching and milling. The finishing segment explains the benefits of finishing operations and highlights shaving, honing, and the various grinding processes.

Electrical Discharge Machining
Electrical discharge machining or "EDM" shapes metal by creating sparks that melt tiny portions of the workpiece. EDM is an exceptionally diverse process that generates no cutting forces. This allows the production of fragile parts that cannot take the stress of conventional machining. This program examines the components of an EDM system, and the EDM erosion process. The two forms of electrical discharge machining, ram, and wire are then featured, with a comprehensive exploration of their individual subsystems.
