The 2015 edition of SME’s RAPID Conference & Exposition (Long Beach, CA), while displaying 3D printing of the present, also presented anticipation for the future of additive manufacturing. “I’ve never been more optimistic about it,” industry consultant Terry Wohlers said during a speech on May 21, the last day of the show. RAPID 2015 attracted more than 4,500 attendees, up 30% from 2014. “It’s finally getting the attention and respect and investment it deserves,” Wohlers said. Full Article

In the southwest part of Germany surrounding Stuttgart, known as the Silicon Valley for manufacturing technologies, a slice of the country’s leadership in this area was on full display during the INDEX & TRAUB open house in mid-June. The INDEX Group, which is headquartered in Esslingen and has 2,300 employees worldwide, is one of the largest turning machine manufacturers in the world, founded in 1914.
