EOS Names Fletcher President of North American Unit

EOS named Glynn Fletcher president of EOS of North America, as the 3D printing company moves to integrate additive manufacturing with traditional subtractive production methods. Fletcher was president of GF Machining Solutions LLC in Lincolnshire, IL. EOS and GF Machining have jointly demonstrated systems that combine both manufacturing techniques. Customers want to integrate 3D printing “with more traditional manufacturing processes,” Hans Langer, CEO of EOS, said in a statement. Full Article

Obama Announces Ninth Manufacturing Institute

The Obama administration today announced a competition for manufacturers and universities to form the ninth manufacturing innovation institute, this one to concentrate on textiles and fibers.The US government will invest $75 million while private entities are to invest another $75 million, according to a White House statement. Majority of Manufacturers Plan to Invest in New Technologies

The findings are part of the organization’s Advanced Manufacturing Opportunities Report, which highlights results of a survey of manufacturing executives, engineers and managers on why companies are investing in and using advanced manufacturing technologies such as industrial robotics and additive manufacturing, or 3D printing. Grede Investing to Support Commercial Vehicle Growth

Louisville, Kentucky – March 25, 2015 – Grede Holdings LLC plans to invest more than $20 million over the next three years in its Biscoe, NC, facility to support the growth of its commercial vehicle business. The investment will be used for three new molding machines and handling systems, heat treating, an environmentally friendly immersion coating system, machining and the addition of 26,000 ft2 of manufacturing floor space. Ford to Formally Begin Aluminum F-150 Output at Second Plant

Ford Motor Co. formally will begin production of its aluminum F-150 pickup at a second plant on Friday, the company said on a conference call today.“Job one” of the revamped pickup is scheduled at the automaker’s Missouri plant near Kansas City.  Production of 2014 aluminum F-150 began last year at a factory near Ford’s Dearborn, MI, headquarters.
