As part of their responsibility for member engagement, the SME Member Council has the Chapter Enhancement Committee, the Student Relations Committee and the TCN Steering Committee reporting through them. The following is an overview of each committee's focus and a list of current SME members serving on these committees.

Chapter Enhancement Committee
The Chapter Enhancement Committee is responsible for:
  • Senior chapter health with an emphasis on assisting revitalization efforts
  • Providing continuous improvement suggestions for volunteer leadership development
  • Ensuring the good work and best practices of the senior chapters are shared for all to benefit from
  • Ensuring senior chapters are working collaboratively with student chapters and the SME Technical Community Network (TCN) to provide the ability to share knowledge and enhance the member experience

Student Relations Committee
The Student Relations Committee is responsible for:
  • Working with the student chapters to align them with SME's Strategic Plan 2012
  • Ensuring the good work and best practices of the senior chapters are shared for all to benefit from
  • Ensuring student chapters are working collaboratively with the senior chapters and the TCN to provide the ability to share knowledge and enhance the member experience

TCN Steering Committee
The TCN Steering Committee is responsible for:
  • Completion of a comprehensive operations guide for the TCN overall, and for each technical community to solidify common processes
  • Completion of a set of defined bylaws for TCN policies and rules to ensure the TCN is properly represented as a vital part of SME
  • Continuing development of a polished TCN Web presence through community Web pages
