Harley-Davidson Awards Two Major Programs to Durr
PLYMOUTH, MI, 11/02/2001 (PRNewswire via COMTEX). Continuing the long-term partnership between the two companies, Durr Industries, Inc. has been awarded the total project responsibility from Harley-Davidson Company for two new facilities existing at Harley locations in Tomahawk, WI, and York, PA. The combined projects have a value of approximately $90 million.
To meet the increasing demand for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the two projects will include a Tomahawk, WI, facility for which Durr will provide all paint process technology dedicated to the painting of plastic and SMC parts. The project is scheduled for start of production in early 2002.
The second program in York, PA, is for the design/build of a complete assembly line facility. Under Durr Industries turnkey responsibilities, a 350,000 square foot building with logistical roads, complete paint process and administrative infrastructure, will be erected. This facility will also accommodate a fabrication and assembly area, with the equipment purchase and installation for these two areas being coordinated directly by Harley staff. Upon completion and launch (scheduled for late 2003), the facility will be dedicated to the fabrication, painting, and assembly of "Softail" motorcycles.
Durr Industries will engineer, manufacture, install, and launch both facilities, which will incorporate the highest level of paint and environmental technology in the application of both powder and liquid finishes. Durr Industries designs and builds turnkey paint finishing systems. It is part of the Durr technology group, which is a leading international supplier of production systems and services for the automotive industry and its component suppliers. The Durr group has operations in over 20 countries and employs more than 12,000 people.
