- Media group rebrands to Advanced Manufacturing Media.
- Manufacturing Engineering magazine releases its 2015 media kit.
- New e-newsletter to launch in January to highlight new topics including manufacturing software, advanced materials, automation, lasers and additive manufacturing.
(DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 8, 2014) – SME, an organization that supports the manufacturing industry with resources, training and content, today announced changes within its media group, intended to expand its services and provide much-needed content and news to its audiences.
Previously known as Manufacturing Engineering Media, SME’s media group has been renamed Advanced Manufacturing Media; this was done to reflect its growing portfolio of media products to serve the high-tech manufacturing community for the aerospace and defense, motorized vehicles, medical and energy industries.
“While the name change is partly a reflection of where manufacturing is headed, it also represents the broad manufacturing content SME has been providing for decades to its audience of manufacturing professionals,” said Advanced Manufacturing Media Editor in Chief Sarah Webster.
Manufacturing Engineering magazine has also released its 2015 Media Kit with several portfolio changes. In 2015, there will be expanded content and more emphasis on news and technical information about advanced manufacturing in North America. The 2015 Media Kits will be available at Booth N-7470 at IMTS 2014 in Chicago through Sept. 13 and online at MfgEngMedia.com or AdvancedManufacturing.org.
In January, SME’s media group will also launch a new e-newsletter, Advanced Manufacturing Now, which consolidates four other SME e-newsletters – Lean, AeroDef, Quality and Energy – into a single digital product. This new e-newsletter, to be delivered at least four times a month, will expand its coverage to include topics such as manufacturing software, advanced materials, automation, lasers and additive manufacturing, also commonly known as 3D printing.
In all, Advanced Manufacturing Media now produces:
- Manufacturing Engineering magazine: This publication, which reaches a qualified circulation of more than 90,000 professionals, is available in print and for free online and through an iTunes app. The magazine covers a wide spectrum of topics, from metalworking to 3D printing.
- Annual Industry Yearbooks: These address aerospace and defense, motorized vehicles, energy and medical industries.
- Technical Papers: More than 18,000 individual papers of manufacturing knowledge.
- Custom Publications: Advanced Manufacturing Media’s technical editors and writers help sponsors develop and manage their content for an array of final products, such as e-Notifiers, videos and special publications.
- Webinars: Solutions-oriented webcasts hosted by the editors of Manufacturing Engineering magazine help educate manufacturing professionals on critical and emerging manufacturing topics.
- Website: The dynamic and fast-growing website is dedicated to leadership in advanced manufacturing content, with news, features, videos, blogs and more.
In addition, SME’s Advanced Manufacturing Media is active in social media and its fast-growing Twitter feed is dedicated to sharing advanced manufacturing news, features and headlines in real time. The changes to SME media come as Manufacturing Engineering magazine prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary under its current name in 2015. The magazine’s history dates back to 1935, when SME first published it as Tool Engineer. In the 1960s, the magazine was called Tool and Manufacturing Engineer. In the 1970s, it became Manufacturing Engineering and Management. Since 1975, the magazine has been known as Manufacturing Engineering.
