Description

A general review of research into the technical problem of springback in forming segments of large domes is presented. Contributing factors to the problem are (1) rebound and (2) the proportion of elastic strain present in the total deformation. The explosive-forming process helps reduce rebound, and an experiment was performed in which a technique for positive edge restraint was used in an effort to maximize tensile strains. Five different alloys were used in the study.
