Description

The main types of precision grinding machines are external and internal cylindrical grinding machines and surface grinding machines. The basic types of manually operated grinding machines are described in the early part of this chapter. Most of these are also available with semi-automatic, fully automatic and/or CNC features, which make them more suitable for production environments. There are two major categories of grinding machines and they are precision and non-precision. Grinding has always been considered mainly a finishing process to be preceded by other methods that remove the bulk of the stock from rough work pieces.
