This chapter contains suggestions based on real-life experiences with kaizen. It will help managers understand and identify specific tasks that must be completed, or at least considered, prior to conducting a kaizen event. Much of the success of a kaizen event is determined by the thoroughness of the planning. Many tasks must be coordinated and accomplished before the event begins, because once the event is underway, it will be too late to go back and do them. The first step in planning a kaizen event is to review the last one held and make adjustments as needed. Prior to the actual kaizen event, the descriptions and methodology of the kaizen should be posted for everyone in the plant to see. The posting explains the area to be affected and the expected benefits of changes. Goals and objectives are clearly outlined.
