THIS PAPER PRESENTS RESULTS OF AN INVESTIGATION OF 90 DEGREE V-DIE BENDING OF HOT-ROLLED STEEL PLATE. THE BENDING PROCESS IF DESCRIBED IN DETAIL. BENDING TAKES PLACE IN TWO DISTINCT STAGES: AIR BENDING, WHEN THE DIE MERELY PROVIDES SUPPORT TO THE PLATE WITH ITS SHOULDERS, AND COINING, WHEN THE PLATE IS FORCED TO CONFORM TO THE GEOMETRY OF THE DIE TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT POSSIBLE. IT IS THE LAST STAGE WHICH IS MOST IMPORTANT WHEN V-BENDS OF RELATIVELY SMALL RADII ARE TO BE PRODUCED. DEFORMATION IN V-DIE BENDING INVOLVES A SEQUENCE OF EVENTS, THE LAST OF WHICH IS ELASTIC SPRINGBACK. SPRINGBACK WAS STUDIED FOR TWO DIFFERENT STEELS AS A FUNCTION OF PUNCH RADIUS, DIE WIDTH, AND ROLLING DIRECTION. 5 REFS.
