GE Energy Announces New Products for New World of Extraction
Unveiled at GE Oil & Gas Annual Meeting in Florence, they include new artificial lift, integrated compressors, and high-speed direct drive motor-compressors.
According to a GE press release, dated Jan 28 and available on BusinessWire, more than 1000 energy leaders were expected to attend GE Energy’s 14th Oil and Gas Annual meeting in Florence, Italy. “Global energy megatrends such as the acceleration of subsea exploration, the growth of unconventional fuels, the evolution and expansion of LNG and the impact of monitoring and diagnostics are fundamentally changing our industry,” said GE Oil & Gas CEO Dan Heintzelman at the opening of the meeting, according to the release.
GE Energy took the opportunity to showcase products and projects, of which three in particular are of interest to Energy Manufacturing.
New Artificial Lift Products to Help Boost Oilfield Production Efficiency. GE introduced two new products for the upstream oil production sector: a new Motor Cooling System (MCS) and a new high-efficiency electric submersible motor.
Mounted at the base of an electric submersible pump (ESP) string between the motor and sensor, GE’s new Motor Cooling System (MCS) is compatible with GE’s E37 motors rated up to 270 horsepower. By reducing well-fluid recirculation, GE’s MCS system achieves lower motor temperatures, according to the company. The new system is well suited for high gas-to-oil ratio (GOR) wells, low well-bore pressures, replacing shroud applications with high interior and exterior pressure differentials, and low fluid-flow wells.
GE’s electric submersible motor is in final field trials in North America, according to the company. The new model is designed to deliver more power and higher efficiencies than existing motors, allowing the motor’s overall length to be reduced per horsepower.
GE Oil & Gas Expands Its Innovative Integrated Compressor Line for the Challenges of Pipeline Applications. GE Oil and Gas also introduced its first single-stage Integrated Compressor Line (ICL), designed for low-pressure ratio applications such as pipeline compression. It features 20% more operating range flexibility and greater efficiency, according to the company.
GE’s previous ICL products were primarily designed for gas storage applications and feature multi-stages and multi-impellers. The new ICL has only one impeller, enabling high performance in applications where the requested design pressure ratio is very low (1.1–1.4), such as pipeline gas compression stations, according to the company.
GE Oil & Gas to Deploy First High-Speed Direct Drive Motor-Compressor Solution for Offshore Platforms. GE Oil & Gas announced it received a contract to supply four complete, variable frequency drive high-speed electric motor and centrifugal compressor packages for Total E&P Norge. They will go into the oil company’s new offshore production platform on the Martin Linge oil and gas field. GE touts this is an important technology milestone. The compressor packages combine GE Oil & Gas’s advanced centrifugal compressor technology on Active Magnetic Bearings (AMBs) with GE Power Conversion high-frequency variable speed drive and high-speed motor technology.
