Advanced Manufacturing Media Staff

VILLA PARK, IL -- Haimer USA in mid-May opened a new North American headquarters featuring 25,000 square feet of space that revealed the new Haimer Customer Center, featuring a 60 seat training room and lounge that opens to a modern showroom, and executive offices.

Haimer USA in mid-May opened a new facility with 25,000 square feet of space to support its growing toolholding and tooling business.

Haimer GmbH, a German-based toolholding and tooling company was founded in 1977 by Claudia and Franz Haimer. In 2001, the Haimer family looked to expand directly into the US market. Haimer-USA was opened in 2002 by Brendt Holden (President, Haimer-USA) and the Haimer family, making Haimer -USA the first subsidiary outside of Germany.

Haimer-USA enjoyed year-over-year double digit growth over the past decade due to its shrink fit and balancing technologies. In 2015, Haimer-USA expanded its North American facility to support and service its growing business. Globally, Haimer reported a sales increase of 10.5% in 2015, following a record 2014 in which the company posted a year-over-year sales increase of 20%.

Member of the Haimer family and Holden cut a ribbon to celebrate the company's new North American headquarters.Haimer USA held the grand opening of its new facility over three days in May, and the event coincided with the dates of DMG MORI’s Innovation Days event held in nearby Hoffman Estates. During the event, Holden and members of the Haimer family cut a ribbon for the new facility, and more than 300 visitors were treated to live machining demonstrations, daily presentations and keynote speakers from companies such as Hermle Machine Co.

Presentations by Haimer and the guest speakers focused on machining and the use of best practices including how Haimer’s products help their manufacturing needs. For example, Haimer’s Safe-Lock toolholders, which launched in 2008, offer patented pullout protection technology. Safe-Lock sales continue to grow rapidly in industries that do heavy high-performance machining and roughing, such as the aerospace industry. The company also offers a range of smart tool balancing technology, new Power Mill end mills, and other related technologies for shrinking and measuring.

Tool balancing of the entire assembly (tool holder, cutting tool & pull stud) is an often-overlooked critical part of the setup. Ensuring that the entire assembly is in balance before use guarantees that cutting tools can be run at their full potential, which saves money. Not only does balance protect the tool from unnecessary wear and breakage, it also prevents scraped parts and spindle damage due to vibration generated by imbalance.

Drew Strauchen, VP of Marketing and Business Development for Haimer USA, led a demonstration in the benefits of tool balancing.Drew Strauchen, VP of Marketing and Business Development for HAIMER USA, led a demonstration showing the changing performance of a tool used slightly out of balance and one used in balance. He compared the importance of tool balancing with today’s high-tech machining centers to the importance of driving a racecar with the wheels in balance.

In April 2016, Haimer GmbH also hosted an open house at its headquarters and production facility in Igenhausen, Germany. More than 1,000 visitors from 28 countries went to see the company’s only production facility in the world.
