AeroDef 2014: High-Performance CVD Coating
CVD coating technology is designed for high-performance applications in difficult-to-machine materials. TiB2 coating with functional properties combines with an optimized substrate, geometry, and edge preparation for the optimized machining of titanium and nickel alloys. This new approach produces a highly wear-resistant coating that is the second hardest coating after diamond coatings. Compared with conventional PVD and CVD coatings, it features a very smooth surface with an ultra-fine-grained structure <50 nm and a uniform, regular morphology without textures. Properties include high hardness, low thermal conductivity, high diffusion resistance, and high chemical stability. The coating is offered in a broad range of milling inserts and cutter body styles, including a 90°, 45°, button style, and high-feed style milling systems.
