Newcomb Spring of Carolina Moves, Triples Size
Newcomb Spring Corp.
Decatur, GA - September 24, 2013 – Decatur, GA-based Newcomb Spring Corp. today announced that its Carolina plant is moving to a new location in Gastonia, North Carolina. The 47,000 square-foot facility will triple the plant’s square footage and allow for a significant expansion of capabilities. Newcomb Spring of Carolina expects to be operating out of the new location by October 31st, 2013.
Investing in Square Footage, Equipment & Technology
The move will allow Newcomb Spring of Carolina to increase its production capabilities, providing faster turnarounds, low costs and a more diverse array of manufacturing and secondary operations. More than a million dollars of new equipment has been installed at the location, increasing the plant’s output capacity and doubling material wire size capabilities from .080 to .162 inches in diameter. New technology will also eliminate many manual operations, automating wire forming processes to achieve higher levels of accuracy and compliance. Additional quality control technologies, including the latest torque testing, load testing, dimensional laser and photographic measurement equipment have also been installed, improving levels of repeatability and precision.
“We’re very excited to be up and running at our new facility,” said Keith Porter, Jr., General Manager at Newcomb Spring of Carolina. “Newcomb has made a significant investment in outfitting the plant with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. We’re increasing our material size capabilities, improving our secondary operations and building an extremely versatile wire forming operation. I believe we will be the most advanced spring and metal forming company in the southern United States when complete, with cutting edge technologies that far exceed the industry standard.”
The company purchased the new location, formerly a commercial warehouse, and is upgrading the building to fit the needs of its modern manufacturing operations. New communication technologies, upgraded electrical, efficient environmental controls and interior renovations are being completed at the facility. The company expects to invest almost a half million dollars in the building improvements.
“This new location has provided us with a great opportunity,” continued Porter. “Not only are we expanding, but we’ve also been able to build a modern manufacturing environment specifically designed for spring and metal forming operations. We have specific areas for tooling, QC, secondary operations, material storage, packaging and front-office staff. The new layout means orders can flow efficiently though the plant and we can expand our operations.”
Transition & Contact Information
Newcomb Spring of Carolina expects a seamless transition during the move to its new facility, and is planning to run both plants simultaneously for a short time period, eliminating any equipment and output downtime. Customers can expect all orders to ship on time during the move.
The new facility is located at 2633 Plastics Drive in Gastonia, NC, less than 20 miles from its previous location in Charlotte. The facility’s telephone and email address will remain the same. Customers can email Newcomb Spring of Carolina at email@example.com to request a tour of the new location.
