Spirit AeroSystems Adopts New Manufacturing Software
Spirit AeroSystems Inc. (Wichita, KS) announced at AeroDef 2013 that it will use FlexNet, a next-generation manufacturing execution system, to help the company better manage resources, processes and materials across production facilities on three continents. Spirit AeroSystems is the largest non-OEM designer and manufacturer of aerostructures for commercial, military and business/regional jets. FlexNet is a unified suite of manufacturing software applications provided by Apriso Corp. (Long Beach, CA).
“Our IT strategy,” said James Cocca, Spirit CIO, “is to implement three standard platforms across our global enterprise. These platforms include our business enterprise platform (ERP), our product lifecycle platform (PLM) and now, with FlexNet, our global manufacturing execution system (MES). This is expected to drive manufacturing process execution improvements and consistency, resulting in Spirit being more agile while continuing to drive our management operating system with enterprise performance metrics.”
Spirit's core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components. Additionally, the company provides aftermarket customer support services, including spare parts, MRO (maintenance, repair, overhaul), and fleet support services in North America, Europe and Asia. Spirit Europe produces wing components for a host of customers, including Airbus.
