FABTECH 2012: Carbon Fiber Tooling

 Carbon fiber (CF) tooling allows robots and automation to move at higher speeds than aluminum and steel, dramatically improving production rates. In aluminum and steel tube tooling, the press needs to be opened wider to avoid component contact with other parts of the machinery due to potential vibration, slowing cycle times. CF tooling virtually eliminates vibrations, allowing a smaller press opening to improve production rates. Round carbon fiber profiles are compatible with a wide variety of popular brand standard vacuum, gripper, and power-clamp components. Potential CF applications include crossbar beams, loading and unloading beams, destacking beams, panel loading t-booms, and tooling supports for bodyshop, pressroom, and injection molding.
